Free Nnamdi Kanu and go after bandits – Adeyanju

The convener of Concerned Nigerians, Mr. Deji Adeyanju, has once again appealed to President Buhari to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who has been held in prison by the federal government as his trial lingers. Recall that Kanu was apprehended in Kenya on Sunday, June 27th, 2021, and brought back to Nigeria to face trial on charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods, among others.

Mr. Adeyanju appealed on his Facebook page, where he posted, “Free Nnamdi Kanu and go after bandits,” which has attracted thousands of likes and comments from many Nigerians on the social media platform. Adeyanju, a renowned activist and lawyer, has made similar appeals in the past for the unconditional release of Mr. Kanu.

Also recall that the United Nations, UN Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, has indicted both Nigeria and Kenya Governments for the arrest and extraordinary rendition, torture and continued detention of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, without due process. The council, therefore, urged the Nigerian government to ensure, the “immediate release Kanu unconditionally” and pay him adequate compensation for the arbitrary violation of his fundamental human rights.
